Crime Prevention - Neighborhood Watch Anyone?

The Orange County Sheriff's Office has a program of which any community in Orange County can take advantage. It's all about Crime Prevention. You can request a FREE Residential Security Survey to be done on your condo. The officer in charge of our area (Sector 2) can be contacted to schedule a survey. His info is: DFC Richard Negron 407.249.4508.
See Orange County's Crime Prevention Team for more information.

This brings up the idea of a Neighborhood Watch. In order to become an "official" neighborhood watch community we would need to know if people are interested. For instance, the program calls for Volunteers to serve as block captains. One block captain needs to be assigned for every ten homes (or in our case perhaps a building or two). The block captain’s duties are varied but essential to the success of a Neighborhood Watch. These tasks include welcoming new neighbors and encouraging their participation in the program; compiling a list of names of all persons on their block who wish to participate; serving as a liaison between citizens and law enforcement; and helping to form and maintain a telephone notification system for emergencies.

So, what do you think? Any interest? Please fell free to comment and or vote on the Neighborhood Watch Poll to the right. If you would like to volunteer to be a block captain, please file out the form indicating your interest.
